All The Things We Need
ALL THE THINGS WE NEED
The work "All the things we need" (in German: "All die Dinge die wir brauchen") is a constantly growing visual archive of images of everyday objects and products distributed by spam media. By totally blackening out the advertisements with ink, a negative representation of the familiar format comes to the forefront of the perception. The goods depicted merge into the texts describing them, and their surroundings into strangely amorpheous subject-object-context entities.
What remians visible is nothing more than an apparitional impression, guided by the outline, giving only a vague idea of the items which are here on offer. This "subvertising" encroaches on the economy of commercial iconography and habits of consumption, raising questions on the border between information and dis-information, form and content, needs and desires, promise and delusion.
